Flambeau Celebrates 75 Years of Plastics

Company Committed to Continuing Legacy

Flambeau Celebrates 75 Years in 2022Baraboo, Wisconsin (March 7, 2022) – Flambeau, Inc., the highly diversified, world-wide manufacturer of molded thermoplastic products, parts, and assemblies reaches a new landmark this spring few businesses last long enough to accomplish. The company will complete its 75th year of business since its inception in 1947, and celebrating with Flambeau are the associates in manufacturing facilities in Baraboo, Wisconsin; Columbus, Indiana; Madison, Georgia; Phoenix, Arizona; and Middlefield and Sharon Center, Ohio; as well as affiliates in Ramsgate, Kent, England, and Saltillo, Coahuila Mexico.

Before relocating permanently to Baraboo in 1950, Flambeau had its start in the northern Wisconsin rural community of Bruce. There, two brothers, William “W.R.” and Edwin Sauey, together with other family members built a garage-sized building by hand to house their first injection molding machine, built by their tool-and-die experienced father, Ole Sauey, and their brother, Norman Sauey. The young company was named for the nearby Flambeau River, and the brothers were soon manufacturing useful and successful products, such as a frog fishing lure that became popular with anglers throughout the Midwest.

From those humble beginnings, Flambeau has become a company of over 2,500 associates and a manufacturer of complex parts, sub-assemblies, and finished consumer products for over 40 unique industries. With over 1,400,000 square feet of production space, Flambeau is ranked year-after-year in three major categories of Plastics News Magazine’s top 100 lists of companies for Injection Molders, Blow Molders, and Mold Makers, placing the company among an elite few in North America.

With facilities and offices across the United States, Mexico, United Kingdom, and China, Flambeau manufactures OEM parts and products for the automotive, appliance, trucking, construction, agriculture, medical, and other industries. Flambeau’s expansive line of packaging cases provides durable, value-added solutions to protect, transport and display products for over 40 different industries. Flambeau’s Fluids Systems provides tanks, caps and fittings through stock products and custom solutions for a wide range of vehicles and equipment.

Flambeau’s Retail Markets Group markets its brands of proprietary product lines for fishing, hunting, art and crafts, and the toy market, among others. One of the oldest independent toy brands in America is Flambeau’s Duncan Toys Company with its line of skill, interactive, and outdoors toys. Other lines include Artbin, a giant in the art and crafts supplies storage industry, and Flambeau Outdoors, which sells its popular line of fishing tackle boxes, gun cases, and decoys.

Until his passing in 2020, at the age of 92, W.R. Sauey stood at the helm of Flambeau as Chairman. His son, President and CEO Jason Sauey, carries on the family leadership of Flambeau with an enduring commitment to the company’s legacy manufacturing quality products through the efforts of a committed team of associates. Flambeau, with other family companies, also continues supporting worthy causes and organizations through Flambeau’s charity arm, the W.R. & Floy A. Sauey Family Foundation, donating well over $2 million to date.

Throughout its 75 years, Flambeau has earned recognition as a supportive community member, a trusted manufacturer, a valued brand name, and a place where skilled professionals and workers have made their careers. It is with optimism, and from a position of stability, that Flambeau continues into the next period of the company’s legacy, beyond its first 75 years of “Shaping the products of tomorrow…in plastic,” as the company’s slogan expresses.
